Zij die grafisch werkt
Ze heeft een eindeloze fascinatie voor grafische prints en streeft naar een zo lokaal mogelijke productie. Kim Vande Pitte (34) komt uit een creatief nest, met een moeder die thuis is in de tapijtenwereld en een vader die meubelma- ker is. Dat haar eindbestemming in textiel zou zijn, wist ze lang niet altijd, ondanks haar grote voorliefde voor deco. Na haar opleiding grafisch ontwerp kreeg ze de smaak te pak- ken, en studeerde ze nog textieldesign aan de prestigieuze school La Cambre.
In 2012 richtte ze haar eigen label KVP op, gekenmerkt door prints die in het oog springen. ‘Ik speel graag met lijnen, die geven meer complexiteit aan textiel. Ik vertrek steeds vanuit een grafische structuur, die ik nadien layer door extra volumes en schaduwen. Een print speelt voor mij een cruciale rol binnen een interieur, want het is iets waarmee je je kunt identificeren. Ook kleur is cruciaal, het geeft een dynamische toets.’ Ze werkt graag met natuur- lijke materialen zoals katoen en merinowol: ‘Mijn label staat voor slow design, met kwaliteitsmaterialen die duurzaam- heid garanderen en een kleinschalige productie.
Hoewel de designs op vlak van creatie en management globaal kunnen zijn, verkies ik een uitsluitend EU-productie voor de eerlijke werkomstandigheden. Zo worden mijn plaids in Duitsland geweven, het garen komt uit Italië, en af en toe werk ik met een Portugese partner.’ Haar assortiment is breed met o.a. kussenhoezen, tapijten, tafellinnen en outdoor textiel. Haar aanpak is functioneel, de modulaire designs zijn voor alledaags gebruik. Kims creaties vinden ook hun weg naar B2B-partners, met unieke designs en maatwerk. Een toe- komstdroom? Een 100% Belgische lijn realiseren.

She who works graphically
She has an endless fascination with graphic prints and strives to produce them as locally as possible. Kim Vande Pitte (34) comes from a creative nest, with a mother at home in the world of upholstery and a father who is a furniture maker. She was far from knowing that her final destination would be in textiles, despite her great fondness for deco. After graduating in graphic design, she got a taste for it and studied textile design at the prestigious La Cambre school.
In 2012, she founded her own label KVP, characterised by eye-catching prints. 'I like to play with lines, they add more complexity to textiles. I always start from a graphic structure, which I then layer with extra volumes and shadows. For me, a print plays a crucial role in an interior, because it is something you can identify with. Colour is also crucial, it gives a dynamic touch'. She likes working with natural materials such as cotton and merino wool: 'My label stands for slow design, with quality materials that guarantee sustainability and small-scale production.
Although the designs can be global in terms of creation and management, I prefer an exclusively EU production for its fair working conditions. For example, my plaids are knitted in Germany, the yarn comes from Italy, and occasionally I work with a Portuguese partner.' Her range is wide, including cushion covers, rugs, table linen and outdoor textiles in progress. Her approach is functional; the modular designs are for everyday use. Kim's creations also find their way to B2B partners, with unique designs and customisation. A future dream? To realise a 100% Belgian line.
